About the Gallery Server project

Gallery Server is a reusable service layer and OData feed for application galleries. It is used for storing and exposing packages for CMS systems, package managers, etc. Gallery Server functions as the back-end service layer and feed for the Orchard Gallery and NuGet projects. You can use Gallery Server to function as the back-end for your own application gallery, or even to setup your own local instance of another gallery like NuGet. In addition to the OData feed for the contents of the gallery, Gallery Server exposes a REST API for publishing and updating the packages and metadata contained in the gallery.

The Gallery Server project was developed in conjunction with the Orchard Gallery project, which is a front-end implementation that works with a Gallery Server back-end. The Orchard Gallery is under the same open source license as Gallery Server and can be used as a great starting point for setting up your own full featured gallery. However, it is not necessary to use Orchard Gallery as the front-end of a Gallery Server instance. There are a number of configuration settings available in the server that can be customized for your own front-end implementation. Getting Started

To get started you can download the source code as a zip file, or clone the repository, by visiting the Source Code tab. Once you've downloaded the source, setup an IIS site or application against the GalleryServer/src/Gallery.Server folder and run the ClickToBuild batch file to build the code. You'll find a ReadMe text file in the root folder which contains more instructions for setting up the server.

Getting involved

If you have a need for a gallery website of your own and would like to use Gallery Server for storing and exposing a feed of packages, you can get involved by joining the Orchard Gallery mailing list and participating in codeplex.com discussions on this site. We are also gathering requirements for future phases of the project and we welcome your input. We accept code contributions as patches, under the same general guidelines as the Orchard Gallery project.

Did you guys ever get a NugetServer (or OrchardServer) working? I'm running into the same problems and there doesn't seem to be clear guidance on what the best process is for running a gallery for Orchard.

I'm interested in setting up an Orchard Gallery feed on our company intranet.

From what I can tell, it has been impossible to clone and build GalleryServer since at least June of last year because the Nuget plugin's subrepo isn't there.

This project hasn't been touched in almost 2 years. Is this ever going to be fixed or should I try to find an alternative way to distribute internal modules / themes?

I am not able to clone the repository.
I have tried several times at different periods of the past several days.
I have attempted to clone a (mine) fork (Clone URL: https://hg.codeplex.com/forks/mstpierre/tentative ) with the same result. I do not know if it is the repository that has got corrupted somehow or if the Mercurial service of the CodePlex is deficient in certain cases, one of which Microsoft is remotely connected to.

The fact is that I need access to it.
I would be happy to contribute if it's what it takes to make it work. To make it work because the package currently available in the download needs quite a few tweakings before you can get the read-only operations working. Let alone pushing a package to the server which I am still paddling about.

I have been running into this problem as well. Does anyone know where I can get the nuget files myself? I'm not sure which version of Nuget is needed.

The sub-repo for Nuget is now a git repo. The .hgsub will always return a 404 now.

Hi,

I have a working instance of Gallery Server, I can hit the /FeedService.svc/Packages url and I receive an empty RSS feed as I would expect. I want to be able to push my NuGet packages to this service from TeamCity.

I note that the readme.txt file explains

In order to upload and update packages, a REST API is provided using the WCF 4 WebHttp Services. Most of the methods in the REST API take in a string "key" parameter as a means of authenticating that the caller has the rights to make the requested update. Each of the methods that take the key will first call back to an endpoint (configurable in the AppSettings.config file) to validate the call.

Cool. I guess that the url I want to PUT to is /FeedService.svc/Packages/{key}/{id}/{version} ?

Can I do this with the NuGet console app?

I'm trying:
nuget push Orchard.Module.SomeModule.nupkg SomeKey -source http://localhost/GalleryServer/FeedService.svc/Packages/SomeKeyBase64Encoded/ModuleId/1.0.0.0

I'm receiving a (400) Bad Request in response.

I'm sure I'm doing a dozen things wrong here so any help getting this working would be greatly appreciated...

Hi there,

I have followed the steps in the readme.txt and have a working instance of Gallery Server on my machine. I have copied a nuget package generated from an Orchard build using the FastPackage option to the /App_Data/Packages folder within the website. I then expected to see the package listed at the /FeedService.svc/Packages url, but the feed is empty.

Would love to know what I've missed to get this working, thanks.

The mercurial repository url in the Source Code tab is incorrect, it should be https://hg01.codeplex.com/galleryserver rather than https://hg.codeplex.com/galleryserver.

If you look at the OData feed for RouteMagic 0.1.0, you can see:

But in RouteMagic 0.2.2 it becomes:

Note that the difference is I used the website for the first version, but the NuGet.exe command line for the second one.

Somehow, a package record in the gallery server existed, but the corresponding .nupkg file did not.

Repro steps:
1. Push a package to the back-end, but don't let it sync to the front-end.
2. Delete the .nupkg file.
3. Try to delete the package using nuget.exe.

Expected result: Delete the package
Actual result: Exception message.

Ideally we should prevent getting into this state in the first place, but it would be nice if we could recover gracefully.
Comments: Note, the repro steps I provided are not to reproduce the original issue. They are only meant to get the site in the error condition. This bug is to make our site more fault tolerance. We should also try and investigate the steps to get into this condition in the first place.

Fixing how ratings are updated, by using lower cased PackageId keys. The aggregated ratings could not be found if there was a difference in casing in the db and in the service. Also, there could have been multiple aggregated values for a single version due to how the index was computed, without taking case into account.

I'm setting up a gallery by following the instructions on nuget.org.
Pushing packages fails because the NuPackPackageFactory plugin is not copied when running the ClickToBuildRelease.bat on a clean checkout.
It's copying the files from bin\Debug\ instead of bin\Release\

These are the incorrect lines:

Should be:

Comments: I just did Kevin's suggest fix up in the DB. However, we still need to fix the code so that new instances of the DB get the proper schema, but that is now less urgent.

Yes, Gallery Server is a separate site. You can get the code from galleryserver.codeplex.com. There is a short ReadMe file included that might help a little with getting it setup, but if you have any issues with that feel free to post to the discussions over there for help. The server and Orchard Gallery website were intentionally developed as separate apps. If you just want to have your own nuget server and feed to use with the VS tools or with nuget.exe, all you really need is Gallery Server.

I installed the Orchard Gallery on a dedicated server , to be setup as a Nuget repository server. However, how exactly do I setup Gallery Server? Is this another IIS site? I am trying to do something as described here:

The 1 minute wait while the client catches up to the server is too long. The Server should be able to CALL the client and/or there should be a "force update" from the client. I'm also worried about how the current system will scale with millions of packages.

Imagine if do this for

C++, JavaScript, PHP, etc based projects.
